Load Shedding

Load shedding is nothing new but is becoming more common among medium to large commercial and industrial customers as a result of rising energy and operating costs.

When a load such as parking lot or garage lighting is "shed" (switched off temporarily) very noticeable energy savings can be achieved.  These shed times occur only when the lighting in the space is not needed, usually when daylight is all that is needed or during low occupancy times and holidays.  A lot of above ground parking garages in the Valley are lit 100% 7 days a week around the clock.

Of course during normal business hours all lighting can't be shed due to safety and liability concerns.  We approach the design and installation on a case by case basis.

Optimum example:

Shed 1/3 of above ground garages during business hours between main incoming and outgoing traffic times.                                                                      9:00AM - 3:00PM

Shed 1/3 or more of above ground garages during off hours.            6:00PM - 6:00AM

Shed 1/3 or more of above ground garages on legal holidays.                ALL DAY

SAFETY AND LIABILITY

Before the continuing monthly energy savings we provide for the customer, safety is our main concern.  We conduct a floor level candle power test before and after any load shed switching changes are made.  The before test is done by Mariposa Electric during the design stage. The after test is performed by an independent testing company to assure light levels at the floor are acceptable to the customer and the local jurisdiction.

All shed times can be adjusted and or bypassed by the customer at any time.
